Why Ingredients Matter More Than the Bottle
In the fragrance industry, the most significant cost driver and the most significant quality determinant is not the bottle, the box, or the brand name. It is the raw material. A rose absolute from Isparta, Turkey costs more per kilogram than most precious metals. A natural oud oil from Cambodia can cost USD 30,000 per litre. These are the materials that make great fragrances great.
At Resemble, we source from the same ISO certified suppliers used by European perfume houses. Here is where our key ingredients come from and why each origin matters.
Rose: Isparta, Turkey
The Isparta region of southwestern Turkey produces Damask rose (Rosa damascena): the gold standard of rose absolute in perfumery. Harvested by hand in May, before dawn, when the petals hold the highest concentration of aromatic molecules. It takes roughly 3.5 tons of rose petals to produce one kilogram of rose absolute.
Our rose note appears in Valeya, Florina, and Portrait and in the heart of several of our unisex fragrances.
Jasmine: Grasse, France
Grasse in the south of France is considered the capital of perfumery. Its Jasminum grandiflorum, known as Grasse jasmine, is unique: richer, more indolic, and more complex than jasmine grown anywhere else. The terroir of Grasse produces a jasmine that cannot be exactly replicated elsewhere.
Our jasmine is present in Rouge and Portrait, providing the floral luminosity that makes these fragrances radiate.
Oud: Cambodia
Cambodian oud is prized for its sweet, fruity resinous profile. It is less austere than Indian oud and less medicinal than some Middle Eastern varieties. Our oud supplier in Cambodia works with sustainably farmed Aquilaria trees: plantation grown to protect wild populations while maintaining the quality profile of genuine agarwood.

Sandalwood: Mysore, India
Mysore sandalwood (Santalum album) from Karnataka, India is the most coveted sandalwood in perfumery: creamy, milky, and long lasting in a way that Australian sandalwood or synthetic Javanol cannot fully replicate. It is a protected resource in India, and genuine Mysore sandalwood requires certified supply chains.
Sandalwood is a foundational base note in Self, Elesium, Homie, and several others.
Bergamot: Calabria, Italy
Bergamot from the Calabria region of southern Italy, specifically the province of Reggio Calabria, is the only bergamot used in fine perfumery. The specific microclimate of this coastal strip produces bergamot oil with a complexity that cannot be found elsewhere.
Bergamot opens Sauv, Silvr, and Mathair, providing the bright, citrus lift that defines their opening character.
